ARGENTINE
TANGO DANCE
A
sad thought that it danced (Santos Discépolo)
Before being a dance, the Argentine
Tango is an attitude, that of guapo and of compadrito of the quarter
of Rio de la Plata at the beginning of the twentieth Century. Even
if one talks about the technique, dancing Argentine Tango involves
the understanding of the history of Tango, the porteños culture
in which it is developed, the different styles, the rituals, the
context of the ballroom, and that of the theater. It is about the
understanding of the spirit of dance.
The
Tango attitude
Seduction and fascination – two energies merged to form one
common movement. Just by having the individual body conscience,
you can deal with the specificities of Argentine Tango much more
easily. These include Tango posture, abrazo, connection, balance,
rotation of the core, game of the axis, free legs, pivots, walk,
and the indispensable sensations in the interpretation of the dance.
The
basic movements
In Argentine Tango (just like in other dances) the large majority
of elementary figures are made up of simple basic movements. The
comprehension of these basic movements allows you to dance instead
of reciting by heart the figures learned, to know how to practice
to progress in dance, to understand how the elementary figures are
constructed, and to acquire a good mastery of improvisation and
invention.
Elementary
figures
Starting with the basic movements, we can construct elementary figures
to practice and evolve but specially to dance with pleasure in the
milonga (a Tango ballroom) right after the first hour of the lesson.
The
interpretation of Tango
Once you learn a figure, you can use and interpret the same figure
on different music, i.e., on a milonga, an Argentine waltz, a fluid
Tango, a staccato Tango guardia vieja, a slow tempo, a new Tango,
etc...

WINDOW
ON THE DANCE
The
dance expresses the universal feeling of sharing
Just by knowing the possibilities of his or her body, you can learn
and understand choreographies, and the particularities of each dance
will provide an intellectual pleasure. The dance practice in couple
allows developing their faculties of listening, of comprehension,
of adaptation, of perseverance, and of evolution. It provides a
‘well-being’ which facilitates the personal harmony
and the relations with others.
Grow
together
Even if one is always in the search of oneself, valuing the others,
exchanging, and serving for the couple would promote the personal
expression. In the movement which they construct together, the lady
and the man find the extension to their body expression. Working
on this movement will help develop a desire to share, to develop
relationship, and to grow together.

Our
teaching of Argentine Tango and other dances in couple is based
on an organic approach and articulated around the following fundamental
themes :
The
dynamics of a couple
You will dance naturally by being receptive to musical emotions.
You will not recite by heart figures or choreographies learned but
to you will feel the sensations of being able to lead.
Musical
interpretation
Feel the music in your body, pulsation, hear the tempo, musical
phrase, the measure.
Individual
body consciousness
Deal with the elementary figures with ease in a simple educational
method common to all other dances. The precision in the execution
of gesture and displacing, comfort, elegance, relaxation are the
objectives to achieve and the keys to investigation.Transfer of
the body weights, axis, independence of the movements, pressure
to the floor are the indispensable notions for practice dancing
with pleasure even in a context of leisure.
The
subtleness of the lead
Stay away from force and tension in the movement and in contact
with the partner thanks to the basic movements and to the elementary
figures. The man proposes and suggests the movements, the lady enters
in this movement with presence. Acquire the fluidity, the softness,
the energy, keep the connection and the balance during the dance.
Improvisation
You will discover the pleasure of a surprise, the freedom of expression,
the body emotions.
Spirit
and style
These are the expression of a culture and emotions. Each dance corresponds
to a style of music, posture, alignment of a couple, walk, basic
movements, and the line of dance.
The
change in role
Knowing and understanding the movement and the placement of partner
in order to better suggest the intention and better respond to this
intention. Men take the role of the women and vice versa. |
