"This time we had a total of 11 participants: 4 service users and 7 volunteers. We were delighted that Patrick, a professional dancer from France, and Mioko joined us.
Next, while seated in a circle: “Finger exercises,” “Light stretches,” and “Hand tango.”
Everyone stood up to try a “relaxed abrazo.” We all tried different approaches, but Pat from France's abrazo was incredibly soft and natural. (The Japanese still couldn't relax...)
Now that we're all set, today features a special lesson by Pat-chan. Though it was a bit of a hassle having Mioko-san simultaneously interpret Pat-chan's French into Japanese, we managed to have a fun session. The theme was “How to ease stiff legs.”
Rather than focusing your awareness on the foot you're trying to move forward, it's important to hold the “intention” to move forward. The same applies to leading in dance: pushing with your arms or pressing your body against your partner isn't leading. Instead, you should dance while thinking about “Envoyer de l'énergie” (sending energy) to your partner. That's why, once you can lead without holding hands, we danced lightly with Mioko-san, just touching heads without holding hands. Finally, each of us danced with Pat-chan one by one, experiencing this approach.
In Pat-chan's frequent use of the term “energy,” I sensed consciousness, will, thought, and affection. I later learned that while the Japanese word “energy” carries a strong scientific connotation, in French it tends to emphasize vitality, vigor, and mental strength.
The woman who attends every session said, “Shifting your center of gravity is crucial for PD. In that sense, today's lesson was very helpful.” Additionally, the instructor teaching blind dance remarked, “Pat-chan's explanation of weight transfer was truly compelling and drew me in. I'll incorporate it into my own lessons.” It seems everyone gained something valuable. After the seminar ended, Pat-chan declared this activity was “Tres bien!
Finally, we all exchanged hugs once more before concluding this activity. Thank you to everyone who participated."

"Today, not only did Patrick—aka Pat-chan—the tango dancer visiting from France and his partner, Ms. Mioko, come, but Ms. Misae from Shiga and university student Masami-kun also joined us! Hands-On's Fujisan participated too! A total of 9 volunteers! Since that's almost the same number as our service users, we decided to extend the dance time, but everyone was also looking forward to the group demonstration.
Mr. Nobu debuted the dual stretch, combining stretching with hand tango.
Everyone thoroughly loosened up their bodies while adding hand tango.
After everyone hydrated, we watched Patrick and Mioko's demo with rapt attention.
That's when I first noticed their matching shoes... After the wonderful demo ended, they kindly showed us their shoes again. The dance shoes they ordered in Argentina were patchwork-style, colorful, and incredibly stylish!"
